Another letter from Elizabeth. I can't believe she has yet received my reply to the last. This one has most sinister over-tones suggesting that I shall soon be visited by the 'ghosts of my evil actions' (whatever they may be). I wonder if she has been reading A Christmas Carol? Its all very extraordinary and I burned the letter upon reading as I felt that it could be open to misinterpretation if it falls into the wrong hands.

Mindful of my obligations I wrote her a rapid response encouraging her to keep her chin up, and assuring her that we will soon be reunited on the shores of Blighty just as soon as she is fit to travel. Privately I am not at all sure when that may be.

I must write to Elizabeth's consultant and enquire whether the medication he prescribed is proving sufficiently effective.
