I spent the largest part of today preparing for the ex-servicemen's fund meeting on Thursday - as I must keep the rest of the week clear for other things. A scan of the books - such as they are - was revealing. Wilson's record keeping was never of the best and his scruffy ledger is not likely to do the ex-servicemen much good. Besides which, as the fund has only raised 3 pounds, eight shillings and fourpence in total it is difficult to see how its expenses can come to more than five pounds, including a mysterious eleven shillings paid to the wine merchant for 'entertainment'. I can only assume that Wilson has granted the fund an overdraft, otherwise it would appear to be insolvent before it has even got off the ground. We must commence fund-raising as an urgent priority - I shall make that my number-one task at the meeting on Thursday.
